Households could save $2,000 through thermal efficiency and electrification

2 Minute Read

As winter will soon be upon us, households could save in energy costs.  The climate council recommend that by plugging gaps, sealing cavities and making other “thermal efficiency upgrades”, combined with swapping out gas appliances for more efficient electrical ones, households could save an average of $2,000 per year.

About half of this comes from making homes more thermally efficient including:

  • Better insulated, less leaky houses can save many households over $1,000 annually on energy bills
  • Ceiling insulation and draught proofing are the two most cost effective measures
  • Calls for national zero-interest loan scheme to help households cover the upfront cost
